The biggest blunder to his chances would've been if he was incorporated into another character's moveset, like if Shaggy summoned him out for moves or something like that. But from what we've seen from Shaggy (and based on the leaked gameplay of Velma), Scooby doesn't appear in any of their movesets which is a big plus for him. Shaggy and Velma are cool, and I even hope nosotros get Daphne and Fred down the line. Merely Scooby is just... the character you lot need to represent the franchise.
